Beeper Android
v4.14.68 September 5, 2024
New Features ✨
Select skin tones for emoji reactions!
- Long press a message, tap ➕ → 🤘 to change the default skin tone
Smart Copy
- Long press a message, then long press copy → you can now copy what’s really important in the message! In addition, you can also select and copy specific text in a message!
Video Player
- Data Saver Mode – enable to always compress images before sending, and add more compression to outgoing videos
- ⚙️ → Preferences → Media → Data Saving Mode
- Location Preview Rendering
- Previously, locations would just display as raw coordinates – now they appear as pins on a map
Fixes & Optimizations 🔨
- We’ve changed our video compression algorithm to be much faster (4x!)
- Optimized overall performance to be much faster for people with over 2,000 chats, and to be more performant on older devices
- Mentions now work correctly when added to the middle of a message, not just the end
- Refined decryption retry logic to be more consistent when receiving undecryptable messages
- Optimized message sends to be faster
- Multiple messages sent within a short period of time will now be sent in correct order
- Fixed a memory leak that would cause Beeper’s performance to be sluggish and degrade the longer it was open
- Fixed a case where the order of the media in the photo gallery could be mixed up
- Corrected invisible text in Android 10 long press menus
- Correctly forward GIFs in their original format, instead of as videos
- Correctly forward links as links, instead of as pictures
- Stopped Low Priority chats from displaying when filtering on unread messages
Labs 🧪
- A brand new implementation of our local Signal bridge has been introduced. If you’ve set up a local bridge in the past, you’ll need to log in again.
- ⚙️ → Preferences → On-device Signal Bridge
- ⚙️ → Network Connections → Experimental On-Device Bridges → Signal
- Local Bridges are conceptually different than the rest of the Beeper bridges because they don’t rely on any Beeper cloud architecture running on your behalf. Local bridges talk directly from your phone to the external network services.
